Solid State Amps
Solid-State amplifiers use electronic and digital components to produce sound.
Tube Amps
Which amp should you buy?
It depends on what you'll use it for.
A guitarist that has just started playing shouldn't buy a tube amp, as most beginning guitar players cannot tell the difference. A 5, 10, or 15 watt solid state amp should be suitable for most beginners.
Also, if you live in an apartment or intend to have your amp in a small room, I would recommend lower watt amps.
If you need an amp for recording, you can justify spending the extra money for a tube amp.
Unless you're like me and are too lazy to change the damn tubes every 6 months, go with a solid state because not only are they cheaper but they require almost no maintenance.
Ultimately the choice is subjective and completely up to you, but if you want my advice.....
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A GOD DAMN TUBE AMP!
If your solid state sounds like shit just buy a pedal.
In my opinion the only way to justify having a tube amp is to rent it for a gig, but my opinion is not common.
